pre-school Christmas party

i signed up for two parties this year. one of them is the Christmas party. the other is the end of the year party. the meeting for the Christmas party was last Thursday. one of the moms had called me earlier in the week and we went over a few things that needed to be done for the party. basically she put me in charge of a book. (um, ok) and she also mentioned a craft. Jason and I went through our books here at home, and asked his school librarian for a good suggestion on a book about giving. we finally decided on two. later that day i had gotten an email from two of the pre-school moms who came up with a couple of crafts. i didn't reply. i just figured i would take my craft with me to the meeting (the footprint snowmen) and at least let them see it.

the meeting went ok. one lady was apparently in charge of the whole thing. (the same lady i had talked to on the phone). she pretty much had everything organized. we were all just there to help decide on who was in charge of what. they liked my books (thank goodness), and decided to go with an angel made out of a clothespin for the craft. which i think is so great! i will LOVE the angel Peyton makes. i didn't say much about my snowman footprints. i really wanted the kids to do the angel clothespin once i saw it. i will love hanging it on the tree every year.

i will not be able to make the party because siblings are not allowed. i really want to be there, but my only babysitters (my parents) are in Florida helping my sister Meagan with her new baby. (she had a little girl December 11th, Lily Mae). i told the moms at the meeting i would not be able to make it. which was fine.

i kind of felt bad about only bringing books to the meeting when other moms were in charge of crafts, snacks, drinks, cups and plates. so i asked what else i could do. well, now i am in charge of the box the canned food items go in (um, ok), candycane pens (easy), and a letter to go home with the kids telling the parents that their children need to bring a non-perishable item to school with them on the day of the party. once the meeting was over and i was putting Jayden in his carseat i started thinking about how i could make the box i am in charge of fun.

this is the box. i found it at the grocery store. i also found some paint and a sponge.
i decided to make it a chimney.
i decided if i am in charge of the box it's going to at least be cute. i also added some snow on top. it has a poem about giving that goes along with it.
i think it turned out pretty cute.

i dropped it off today (along with the candy cane pens) in the church office. one of the moms is going to pick it up Thursday before the party. i also sent the parent letter to school with Peyton today.

i'm looking forward to hearing about the party from Peyton. he is going to have so much fun. then he has Christmas vacation until 2009. yay!
