new camera

about a week ago my new camera came in the mail. it is an early (ok VERY early) Valentines present from Jason. i was SOO excited to get it. my old camera hasn't been working as well as it should. my pics have been a mess. i have been taking lots of pictures of the boys with my new camera (Nikon D40) and decided i want to really get to know how to use this thing. the past few days i have been racking my brain, reading the manual and the internet to try and figure out 'aperture'. well today i FINALLY got it! low aperture #= higher depth of field. high aperture #= lower depth of field. the way i had to understand it better is; if you want to see more in the photo, use a higher number. if you don't want to see background (blur the background) and mostly the subject, use a lower number. YAY me!

i don't know why it took me a few days to figure that out. it seems so simple now. i am ready to use my camera in A mode. not just auto like i have been doing. i want a new lens already. haha! i will def wait until i know more though.
